Prints are advantageous to both art buyers and the artist. Artists who do not want to "mass produce" their work, but want to offer affordable quality prints to the public, can have prints made that are a fraction of the cost of the original work of art. Most artists offer prints of their work even when the original may still be available. Not every art lover necessarily wants to own an original. First of all, the original is one-of-a-kind and will have a high price tag. Whereas a print will usually be considerably lower in cost. The point is, if you could get a high-quality signed print on paper or canvas that for all practical purposes is identical to the original, wouldn't buying a print make sense?

Digital prints today offer a remarkable likeness when compared to the original work of art. Whether the digital mages are produced using a digital camera or a quality scanner, the images are of exceptional photographic quality. Once these images are stored in archived files, they will not deteriorate in quality as negatives or film inherently do. Once an image is digitally is stored (archived), additional reproductions can be made with minimal effort and at a reasonable cost. Another advantage of digital printing is that digital images can be reproduced to almost any size and onto various papers and canvases, giving the artist the ability to customize prints for a specific client. Which brings us to the today's modern Giclée prints.

Giclée prints use digital images to print quality, archival prints on modern ink jet printers. With the combination of colorfast, archival inks these modern printers literally spray the images on any surface you want. The end result is a perfect reproduction that challenges the line and color quality of the original. This combination of technologies presents today's art buyer a cost-effective alternative when buying art.

Art lovers and collectors will find an advantage to buying Giclée prints without compromising the visual beauty and quality of the original. The price for a high-quality Giclée print is about mid-way between the original price of the artwork and a mass-produced print.  The Giclée prints make fine art accessible to a broader range of art buyers and allow the artist's work greater exposure both nationally and worldwide, which boosts the value of the buyer's print.

Giclée prints are a sound investment just as is original art. Many examples of Giclée prints can be found in art centers around the world, such as the Metropolitan Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Chelsea Galleries.

As you browse my watercolor gallery, you will note that prints can be marked as "Limited Editions" or "Open Editions". Limited edition prints have a finite number of editions available; for example, 100 prints, 200 prints, and so on. When the last limited edition is sold, no more prints of that painting will be reproduced. An Open Edition print is available without limit.

Both types of prints may be available for purchase but not sitting on the shelf. They are marked, "Out of Stock."  You can order a print that is "Out of Stock," but it takes about 3 to 4 weeks to reach you from the time you place your order. I remove original paintings from the website after they are sold and once all prints of that painting are no longer available for sale. See also, Artist's Proofs.
